Is Lil Yachty departing from trap music to alternative rock?
27 of January will be the day that the well-known mumble rapper Lil Yachty releases an alternative rock album "Let's Start Here". It is a great shock to his fans and other trap lovers that the great artist in the game will release quite the opposite of what they love.
But this is not shocking, last year when the rapper was buying jewellery in Icebox Atlanta, he told some of the employees about his next album, he said that the next album will be different from rap but people who watch it discarded it when he released "Poland".
Though it got a leak on the Internet by a hacker its initial name was "Sonic Ranch", immediately Yacthy found the leak, he did some changes not to the songs but to the titles of the tracks and the name of the album. The leak was exposed in December last year.
The rapper was working on the album since 2021 with psychedelic rock producers such as Alex G, Daniel Ceaser and Mortal Orchestra bassist Jacob Portrait amongst others. And indeed after almost 2 years in production, the album became a success by arriving at No.9 on the Billboard hot 200 and No.1 in Billboard US top rock albums and US top alternative albums.
Lil Yachty changed the genre so that he could gain respect in the industry and people not only know him as a rapper but he wants to try new things. "Is not about respecting rap, is about being respected as a rapper". This statement was made on Twitter replying to a fan who was criticizing him for changing the genre.
Yachty is still in the rap game he just wants to make a difference from other rappers although he is already different from them by his trap beats and his mumble rapping. His style may seem familiar to fellow Atlanta rappers like Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti.
