Three reasons why Chelsea sacked Graham Potter

Three reasons why Chelsea sacked Graham Potter.

Chelsea lost on Saturday with Aston Villa and made them go from their recent 10th  position to 11th which made a lot of their loyal supporters sad and frustrated, Chelsea has been through a lot of failures and frustration this season due to bad coaching.

Graham Potter was signed to Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion on the 8th of September of 2022, The same date Queen Elizabeth II Died. He was signed with a Whooping sum of $21.5 Million (£17.5 Million) making him one of the most expensive Coach transfers in the league he signed a five-year contract with the team but he was sacked on Sunday 2nd of April 2022 after the team loss with Aston Villa on Saturday.

About Graham Potter.

He was a football player who started playing for Birmingham City in 1992 where he played 25 times for them. He played for 13 years as a left-back and made 307 appearances in the football league. At the international level he played once for England at U21 level.

He started his professional managerial career in January 2011 with Östersund. He won at least three promotions and The Swedish Cup with the team making the team go to the 2017-18 Europa League knockout stage. He was appointed as the manager of Swansea City F.C in 2018 and later moved on to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019 where he was picked by Chelsea in 2022 with a Whooping sum of £17.5 million where he almost destroyed the club but viewed by the owner his bad style of coaching and tactics, he sacked him on Sunday by sending him a public letter.

But Potter has been recognized for "progressive" and unconventional coaching methods. Describing his teams as "tactically flexible, attacking and possession-based". While he was a young coach, he studied the training methods of Roberto Martinez in Swansea and became inspired by his possessive approach with the principles he saw during his travels to Spain. He also cites the philosophy of Pep Guardiola and Raymond Verheijen's periodisation.

Even Guardiola admitted that he was a big fan of Potter he admire his way of coaching. He even said that Potter's Brighton is a joy to watch, a joy to analyze and his players move with freedom and everyone knows what they have to do. They always have the courage to play every where.

During his time in Swansea, Potter used ten different formations and his team completed the most passes in ten different formations and in Östersund, he often uses the 3-5-2, 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formations on ball possession. This is the formations he used to make the team to get three promotions but it didn't worked in Chelsea.

It is because of his success in Brighton and Hove Albion that made Todd Boehly to buy him and his format didn't work in Chelsea but he still tried his best in other for the team to have positive results. Is not as if he is lazy or unserious, he gave success to all those smaller clubs like Östersund and Swansea City and because of his success to those clubs, he was given a ticket to coach teams like Brighton and he was privileged to get more experience from there but he thought with his skills in coaching and tactics he learned in Brighton will make him coach a big team like Chelsea. But among all the teams he coached, Chelsea was his tough one.

He is being replaced for now with the assistant coach Bruno Saltor as an interim coach for the team as he coached them on the match with Liverpool two days after Potter's sack. Chelsea is looking upon the 35-year-old former Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann but he has yet not made his decision.

Although Graham Potter managed to bring the team to the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League He took the 2021 UCL Winners to the 10th position in the Premier League He was well-known by the club fans and players as "Harry Potter" Due to his "Magical" Position change of the club

Now, these are the Three reasons why Chelsea sacked Potter.

1. His bad purchase of players and his unnecessary expenditure.

Chelsea is well known to have smart and calculative players but due to the recent losses, Potter has to Waste the club's money on unnecessary players without knowing that it was his bad coaching that is making the team to be losing the matches. First, he brought player Joao Felix on loan and gave him number 11 but on his debut, he got a red card. Secondly, by signing various quality players such as Enzo Fernandez and Welsey Folana but still, no improvement from the club but more worst results are coming up.

2. His Lack of team formation and Line-Up sense.

Graham Potter does not have the sense of putting on a good football team formation and accurate Starting XI lineup as he puts mostly players with low experience while playing with tougher teams and puts players with average experience while playing with weaker teams and as well putting weak formations such as 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 even towards tough teams. This is even the main reason why Chelsea losses or draws their matches.

3. His low experience with big teams.

Chelsea was Graham Potter's first big team managed but he doesn't know how Chelsea has been made be one of the big 6 in the UK and one of the big names in football. He did not know how to handle a battling team like Chelsea and this has been making the team to be weak and to be under the 10th position.

In the past final results of their PL Table, Chelsea ended up on the big 4 teams due to good coaching ethics by past experienced coaches but didn't record it before joining the big team.
