Vinicius Júnior Racism case: Sunday's Abuse by Valencia on Real Madrid-Valencia match.
On Sunday's match between Real Madrid and Valencia, fans of Valencia were caught throwing racial abuse towards the Brazilian player Vinicius Júnior before and during the game calling him a "monkey" and other abusive words towards the innocent Real Madrid winger. Vinicius Júnior is among the footballers in Europe who are facing Racism from the opposing fans from another team as well as their fans.
Vinicius Júnior, 22, was doing his normal duties as a winger during the second half of the game when Valencia fans started to call Vinicius a monkey and it got out of hand when Vini spotted one of the racists mocking Vinicius by imitating a monkey and broke the silence by pointing out the racist and almost breaking into a fight, his fellow teammates and the referees calm him down and begged him to continue the game, Real Madrid coach Carlo Antocelli also told him to calm down as he wanted to decide to leave the field but he continued.
Vinicius Continued to play but racist abuses kept rising and it became unbearable for Vinicius as he started to shade tears on the pitch, as it is not enough, a serious altercation happened as the Goalkeeper of Valencia, Hugo Duro came to hold Vinicius' neck due to a non-offensive tackle he did on the defender and his number 2 sign he did on his finger as to show that Valencia is not qualifying for any European competition as they do every season, The fight was controlled by other players but Vinicius got a red card by "slapping" a Valencia player which it was shown on the VAR which it was later confirmed that was just a slide of hand after the match, Vinicius was sent off with shade of tears and the abuses continued.
Carlo Antonelli refused to talk about football and anything about the performance in the match instead of what happened to Vini, on Monday, at the press conference he talked to Vinicius who is still down about Sunday's incident and there is a rumour that he is Leaving the club due to the racist abuses in Spain.“I spoke with Vinícius to ask if he wanted to continue (on the field) and the referee asked him to continue. The matter ended there, but of course, it is a personal decision that we can make at the moment. I may have the responsibility in the future to take the player off the field and also to take the entire team off the field. It wouldn't be my responsibility, but I hope I don't have to make that drastic decision because there's a judge on the ground who has that kind of responsibility."
"The truth is that Vinícius is a victim of what he is going through. Sometimes he passes himself off as the culprit because he is said to be provocative. In Mallorca, in Valladolid, fans behave badly. It seems like a custom to insult someone. Why do we have this custom in Spain? This has to stop and we are tired of being insulted every game. Behind the bench, we are also called "son of a..." and "faggot". I hope the entities are clear, La Liga and the referees too. Something happened in Valencia that cannot happen. Spain is not a racist country, but there is racism in Spain. Like elsewhere. And this needs to end" - said Ancelotti.
Like said earlier, it is not the first time that Vinicius Júnior has been racially abused in Spain, it is also found that fans of Atletico Madrid hanged a black doll with a Real Madrid jersey with Vinícius name and number on it. It is also reported that during the last match that Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid had at Atletico's home, the fans were also calling Vinicius a Monkey as well during the last match with Barcelona.
The Brazilian Government condemned the action that happened to Vini Jr as the Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva commented about it during the G7 meeting “We cannot allow fascism and racism to take hold inside a football stadium”, said the politician this Sunday, the 21st, during a press conference after the G7, in Japan. The Brazilian leader is in the city of Hiroshima where the summit of heads of state is taking place.
Also on the social media handle, other celebrities and footballers stand with Vini as they too condemned the act made by the Spanish teams and La Liga by not doing anything about it and the way the referees judged Vini was highly unacceptable. And on Monday morning, Christ the redemmer lights went off as a sign to support for Vinícius Júnior
Will Vinicius gets his justice towards the racists?
